First presented in 2007, the Gianni Bonadonna Breast Cancer Award honors the legacy of Dr. Gianni Bonadonna, a pioneer whose groundbreaking work transformed the field of oncology. The award recognizes a leading clinical or translational researcher whose exceptional contributions have advanced breast cancer research, diagnosis, or treatment, and who has demonstrated outstanding mentorship in the field.
Eligibility Criteria:

Must be an active ASCO member.

Must lead an active clinical and/or translational research program in breast cancer.

Must have a proven record of practice-changing research and mentorship of fellows and junior faculty.

Must be a distinguished lecturer able to deliver a 30-minute address on a relevant breast cancer topic.

Must be able to host a 12-month fellowship within their research group.

Full-time employees of pharmaceutical or biotechnology companies are ineligible.

The award may only be received once per individual.
Funding Details:

The award includes a USD 5,000 honorarium, a commemorative plaque, and travel support to attend the ASCO Annual Meeting.

The recipient delivers a 30-minute recorded lecture presented to ASCO Annual Meeting attendees.

The award also includes a Gianni Bonadonna Breast Cancer Research Fellowship, offering USD 50,000 for one year to fund a fellow in the recipient’s institution.

The fellow’s research must have a direct patient-oriented focus, including clinical trials or translational studies involving human subjects.

The fellow receives support to attend the ASCO Annual Meeting.
