The American Cancer Society (ACS) Postdoctoral Fellowships support early-career investigators in research training programs that prepare them for independent careers in cancer research. The program provides funding for innovative research and professional development, helping postdoctoral fellows expand their expertise and impact in the field.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must work at a U.S. academic institution or eligible non-profit organization.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or a non-U.S. citizen with a valid visa or lawful immigration status at the time of application.
  • Must hold a postdoctoral position; faculty-level or research/staff scientist positions are not eligible.
  • Must have received a terminal doctoral degree within the past 4 years.
    • 0–3 years since degree: maximum fellowship term of 3 years.
    • More than 3 years and up to 4 years: maximum fellowship term of 2 years.
  •  Time spent in clinical-only training does not count toward this limit.

Funding Details:

  • Duration: Up to 3 years.
  • Annual stipends: $66,000, $68,000, and $70,000 (progressive per year).
  • Fellows receive an annual $4,000 allowance for health insurance, workshops, and scientific meeting expenses.
  • An additional $1,500 is provided in the final year for conference attendance or participation in the ACS Postdoctoral Fellows Symposium.
  • Some top-ranked fellowships may receive supplemental funding through special endowment funds.
  • Includes a parental leave option of 4–12 weeks of paid leave per year for birth or adoption, with extended grant terms and continuous stipend coverage.
