Three-year award providing $100,000 per year (total $300,000) to early-career faculty pursuing independent research in gastric cancer. Supports protected research time (≥50% effort) across basic, translational, or clinical domains; projects on precancerous lesions are eligible if relevance to gastric cancer is explicit.
Eligibility Criteria:

MD, PhD, and/or equivalent degree and a full-time faculty appointment in North America (U.S., Canada, or Mexico) by July 2026.

Early-career status: within 7 years of GI fellowship completion (MD/equivalent) or within 7 years of PhD conferment (PhD/equivalent) as of July 2026; allowable exemptions for documented leaves.

Research focus relevant to gastric cancer (clinical or basic/translational).

AGA membership at application and maintained throughout the 3-year term.

Sponsor and mentor required (one person may serve both roles).

Not eligible if holding/have held major career awards with similar objectives (e.g., NIH K01/K08/K23/K99, R-series, VA CDA, or comparable non-federal awards); K12/KL2 past holders eligible, and applicants with active K12/KL2 may apply in their final year if it ends before this award begins.

Funding Details:

Allowable: PI salary/benefits; support for research staff; biostatistics; supplies/animals/materials; equipment up to $5,000/year; travel up to $1,500/year.

Not allowed: mentor salary/support; indirect costs.

Annual scientific and financial progress reports; years 2–3 contingent on satisfactory progress.

Award overlap rules apply; if a comparable award is later received, up to 50% of remaining AGA funds may be retained with timely notice.
