
Rural Oncology Trials Accelerator Award
This award from the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) provides seed funding to establish or enhance clinical trial capacity in rural and medically underserved Texas communities—covering essential infrastructure, staffing, and operational support so eligible sites can become “trial ready” and participate in phase 2/3 oncology trials.
Eligibility Criteria:

Applicant must be a Texas-based public or not-for-profit institution, health care system, community hospital or oncology practice, critical access hospital, federally qualified health center, or safety-net provider serving rural or medically underserved areas (private companies are ineligible).

One application per institution.

Site should have access to a sufficient patient population (e.g., ≥250 new cancer patients annually), access to an institutional or central IRB, and institutional support.

PI must hold an MD/DO (or equivalent), be licensed in Texas, reside in Texas for the entire award period, and commit at least 5% effort; Multi-PIs are not allowed.

Institution must commit matching funds equal to or exceeding 50% of the CPRIT award; by contract execution (and annually), grantee must demonstrate available funds equal to one-half of the CPRIT amount.
Funding Details:

Up to USD 300,000 per year (total costs) for up to 3 years (maximum USD 900,000).

Allowable costs include personnel (e.g., research coordinators, regulatory staff), research supplies, equipment (e.g., -70°C freezers), EMR/CTMS integration and licensing, training, central IRB fees, and partnerships with Site Management Organizations (SMOs).

PI salary support is not allowed.

Construction/renovation costs are not allowed.

Indirect costs are capped at 5% of the total award (≈5.263% of direct costs).
