
ASCO Young Investigator Award for Veteran Cancer
The Young Investigator Award for Veteran Cancer provides $50,000 to support physicians in the last two years of oncology subspecialty training as they transition to faculty, with either U.S. Veteran status or a research focus on Veteran cancer issues. This mentored award funds patient-oriented clinical or translational research under an experienced mentor.
Eligibility Criteria:
General Requirements

Physician (MD, DO, or equivalent) in the final 2 years of oncology subspecialty training (e.g., hematology-oncology, surgical oncology, radiation oncology) at a U.S. academic institution

≤10 years since medical degree (exceptions for MD/PhD if both degrees completed prior to award)

Planning an investigative career in clinical oncology

Valid, active medical license in the U.S.

Working in an oncology laboratory or clinical research setting

Institutional mentor required (if not ASCO member, include ASCO member support letter)

ASCO member or submitted membership application (visit asco.org/membership)

≥60% protected research effort during award period
Veteran-Specific Criteria (one required)

Applicant is a U.S. Veteran (per VA definition); or research focuses on veteran cancer issues.
