
MRFF Early to Mid-Career Researchers Initiative 2025
The MRFF Early to Mid-Career Researchers Initiative 2025 provides targeted support for career-stage researchers to drive innovation in priority populations. Three streams are offered:

Stream 1 (Incubator): Small-scale feasibility projects led by early-career researchers addressing critical health challenges.

Stream 2 (Accelerator): Large-scale interdisciplinary programs led by mid-career researchers improving healthcare delivery and system effectiveness.

Stream 3 (Targeted Call): Co-funded projects accelerating translation of early/mid-career research into policy and practice.
Eligibility Criteria:

Host Organisation: Must be an approved MRFF Eligible Organisation (see NHMRC’s List of MRFF Eligible Organisations).

Investigator Career Stage:
– Stream 1: Early-career researchers (within 5 years of PhD or equivalent).
– Stream 2: Mid-career researchers (5–10 years post-PhD or equivalent).
– Stream 3: Early- to mid-career researchers with a clear translation plan.

Project Scope: Applications must align with one of the three Streams; specify chosen Stream in the proposal.

Compliance: Meet all requirements in the MRFF Early to Mid-Career Researchers Initiative 2025 grant guidelines.
Funding Details:

Total Budget: AUD 44.8 million
-
Award Size: Up to AUD 4 million per project (direct costs plus 10% indirect costs)

Duration: Up to February 2030 from grant commencement

Use of Funds:

Stream 1: Pilot studies, proof-of-concept activities, feasibility assessments.

Stream 2: Program coordination, interdisciplinary collaborations, implementation research.

Stream 3: Translation activities, policy engagement, stakeholder partnerships.
