Black Leaders in Cancer PhD Scholarship Programme

Black Leaders in Cancer PhD Scholarship Programme is a four-year fully funded PhD studentships supporting Black heritage students to pursue non-clinical cancer research at a CRUK Centre, with enhanced mentoring, leadership training, and career development.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Heritage: Self-identify as Black heritage (e.g., Black African, Black Caribbean, Black Other, or mixed backgrounds including Black heritage).

  • Academic: Hold or expect to graduate with a First or Upper-Second Class honours degree (or international equivalent) in a relevant subject.

  • Research Experience: Demonstrable research experience through undergraduate or master’s projects in a related field.

  • Language: Meet host institution’s English language requirements.

  • Centre Entry: Satisfy general PhD admission requirements at the chosen CRUK Centre.

Funding Details:

  • Duration: 4 years (starting September 2025).

  • Quantum: Standard CRUK PhD stipend, UK home tuition fees, and consumables.

  • Extras:

    • Place on the host Centre’s doctoral training programme.

    • Structured mentoring and leadership workshops delivered by Windsor Fellowship & Black in Cancer.

    • Networking events and career support tailored to Black early-career researchers.
