
Cancer Research UK Clinician Scientist Fellowship
The Clinician Scientist Fellowship supports early‐career clinician researchers to undertake five years of postdoctoral training in any cancer‐relevant area (excluding interventional trials and drug discovery), providing protected time and resources to establish an independent clinical academic research programme.
Eligibility Criteria:

Professional Status:
-
Hold CCT and consultant status or have a National Training Number (NTN/NTN(A)) with clear plans to achieve CCT by award start.

Have not previously held any substantive postdoctoral fellowships or a tenured academic post.

Academic Qualifications:

MD or PhD in a cancer‐relevant research area.

Host Institution:

Supported by an appropriate research group and supervisor at a UK university or research institute (short-term secondments elsewhere must be justified).

Career Stage:

Demonstrate the competencies outlined for “developing independence” in CRUK’s Fellowship Competency Framework.

Funding Details:

Duration: 5 years
-
Quantum: Typically up to £1 million total, covering:
-
Your salary at specialty registrar / honorary consultant grade.

One research/technical support salary (justified in application).
-
Running expenses (consumables, travel, publication charges).
-
Equipment costs up to £25 000.

Relocation costs up to £1 000 (if moving institution).
