The Healthy and Meaningful Longevity (HML) Initiative

Singapore’s Healthy and Meaningful Longevity initiative (Phase 2 of the National Innovation Challenge on Active & Confident Ageing) funds multidisciplinary applied research to extend healthspan, strengthen cognitive health, and scale community innovations for seniors.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Principal Investigator: Must hold an MD/MBBS/BDS or PhD (or equivalent), be employed and salaried at a Singapore public hospital, AMC, PHI, or public university for at least nine months per year, and commit to six months’ residency in Singapore annually.

  • Career Stage: Early‐career or transitioning to independent investigator with demonstrated research track record and no outstanding national‐grant reports.

  • Host Institution: Supported by a local research group and supervisor; short‐term external placements must be fully justified.

  • Patient Studies: PI or Co‐investigator must be SMC‐registered or show access via an SMC‐registered collaborator.

Funding Streams & Focus:

  1. Translation Grant: Supports scale-up of proven senior-care solutions through large-scale testbeds to evaluate implementation barriers, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability at population scale.

  2. Cognition Grant: Funds projects addressing dementia and cognitive decline—early detection, integrated care pathways, and caregiver support—to reduce undiagnosed cases and care burdens.

  3. Healthy Longevity Catalyst Awards (HLCA): Seed grants (USD 50 000–100 000 equivalent) to spark bold, early-stage ideas in healthy ageing; awardees join a global cohort and Innovator Summit.

  4. Future Seniors Grant: Leverages existing cohort data to map life-course ageing trajectories and understand future seniors’ challenges and aspirations for targeted policy interventions.

Key Dates & Submission:

  • Future Seniors (New Call): LOIs accepted now via IGMS until 31 Dec 2025 or until funds are exhausted.

  • Translation, Cognition & HLCA Round 6: Closed (reviews ongoing).

  • All applications require endorsement by the Host Institution’s Director of Research via IGMS by the stated deadline; late or unendorsed applications will not be considered.
