
NMRC Population Health Research Grant (Open Category)
The NMRC Population Health Research Grant (PHRG) – Open Category funds innovative studies that improve health outcomes and reduce disparities across whole populations in Singapore. Supported projects span health promotion, preventive health, health-services research, precision-health models, and a range of priority themes—from mental health and maternal–child care to technology-enabled interventions and healthy ageing.
Eligibility Criteria:

Principal Investigator:
-
PhD, MD/MBBS/BDS/PharmD, or equivalent postgraduate qualification (Master’s minimum).

Holds a primary appointment and salary at a Singapore publicly funded institution.
-
Independent investigator with nationally competitive funding or significant publications.
-
Employed ≥ 9 months/year locally; commits to ≥ 6 months’ Singapore residency per grant year.

No outstanding reports from prior national grants.

For patient-based studies: PI or Co-I must be SMC-registered or able to access patients via SMC-registered collaborators.

Research Scope: Proposals must adopt a population-health approach in one of the broad Research Areas below:

Health Promotion & Preventive Health

Health Services Research & Implementation Science

Precision-Health & Digital Interventions
-
Healthy & Meaningful Longevity

Other population-wide strategies to improve health and reduce inequities
Priority themes (for tie-breaking) include: Mental Health; Maternal & Child Health; Chronic Disease Mobilisation (e.g., “War on Diabetes”); Technology-Enabled Care; Healthy Ageing; Complex-Patient Care; Sustainable Care Delivery; Palliative Care; Traditional & Complementary Medicine; Health-Systems Research; and Rehabilitation.

Funding Details:

Quantum: Up to S$1.95 million (inclusive of up to 30% indirect costs^) for up to 3 years; projects with prospective patient recruitment may extend to 5 years under the same cap.

Allowable Costs: Personnel, consumables, equipment, community-engagement expenses, data-analytics, and indirect costs (up to 30%; not applicable to scholarship budgets).

Impact Requirement: Proposals must demonstrate potential for adoption into policy or practice within 2–3 years of completion.

Submit your DOR-endorsed application via IGMS by August 1, 2025, 5:00 PM SGT. Late or unendorsed submissions will not be considered.
