
MAKNA Cancer Research Award
MAKNA and Akademi Sains Malaysia fund promising young Malaysian researchers under 40 to conduct cancer research—providing up to RM 50,000 per project to generate key data and accelerate career development.
Eligibility Criteria:

Malaysian citizen, ≤40 years old, holding a bachelor’s degree (postgraduate students encouraged) and residing in Malaysia.

Interested in cancer research; project must be carried out entirely in Malaysia and completed within 2 years.

Cannot use funds for equipment, salaried personnel, conference attendance, or publication fees.

Institutional endorsement form, signed by the Dean/Head (dated ≤6 months), required.

Apply annually via the ASM Awards & Recognition system at mytopscientists.org by the published closing date.
Funding Details:

Amount: Up to RM 50,000 per award

Duration: Up to 2 years

Use of Funds: Consumables, assays, patient samples, data analysis, and other direct research expenses (equipment and salaries excluded).

Selection: Three awardees chosen each year by an ASM-appointed vetting panel.
