
DoD FY25 Peer Reviewed Cancer Research Program Idea Award
The PRCRP Idea Award supports innovative, untested, high-risk/high-reward concepts in basic cancer research that have the potential to transform understanding or treatment approaches. Projects should generate proof-of-principle and preliminary data without requiring existing pilot results.
Eligibility Criteria:

Applicant Organizations: Extramural or intramural U.S. or foreign academic institutions, biotechnology companies, foundations, DOD laboratories, and other public or private entities (for-profit and non-profit).

Principal Investigator: Independent investigator at or above the level of Assistant Professor (or equivalent); postdoctoral fellows and other mentored positions are not eligible as PIs.

Research Scope: Projects must introduce novel paradigms, challenge existing concepts, or explore new perspectives in cancer biology or immunology. Preliminary data are not required; interventional clinical trials are not permitted (observational clinical research is allowed).

Focus Requirements: Must address at least one FY25 PRCRP topic area and one PRCRP Military Health focus area, demonstrating relevance to Service Members, Veterans, or other military beneficiaries.

Cost Sharing: Not required.
Funding Details:

Amount: Up to $560,000 USD total costs (direct + indirect) over a maximum 2-year period.

Allowable Costs: Personnel, supplies, equipment, travel (including multi-institutional collaboration), and other direct research expenses per negotiated federal rates. No clinical trial costs.
