
DoD FY25 Peer Reviewed Cancer Career Development Award – Fellow and Resident Option
Supports early-career cancer researchers—either post-terminal-degree Fellows (within 7 years of degree) or Clinician-Scientists in Residency—by funding mentored projects that address a critical problem in one of the FY25 PRCRP topic areas and strategic goals, fostering career development alongside impactful research.
Eligibility Criteria:

Fellow Option:
-
Early-career researcher or physician-scientist at or above Research Assistant Professor/Instructor level.

Within 7 years of terminal degree by July 3, 2025 (excluding clinical training or family leave).

Postdoctoral fellows not eligible as PIs; nominal prior career-development funding only.

Must designate a Career Guide at Associate Professor level or higher with a strong cancer research record.

Resident Option:

Resident in an accredited graduate medical education program with institutional support for lab space and protected research time.

Two levels of effort:

Level 1: One-year project (total cost cap $280,000).

Level 2: Two-year project (total cost cap $560,000).

Postdoctoral fellows not eligible; must also designate a Career Guide as above.

General: Applicants and Career Guides may be at different institutions; no citizenship restrictions; cost sharing not required.

Total Pool: Approximately $6.72 M to fund ~12 awards

Cost Caps (Total Costs = direct + indirect):

Fellow Option: $560,000 over up to 3 years

Resident Option Level 1: $280,000 over 1 year

Resident Option Level 2: $560,000 over 2 years

Period of Performance: Awards made by September 30, 2026; funds expire September 30, 2031

Allowable Costs: Salary support, supplies, equipment, travel (multi-institutional collaboration + one scientific meeting per year); no clinical trial costs.
