DoD FY25 Melanoma Research Program Team Science Award

Supports hypothesis-driven, multidisciplinary melanoma research projects led by 2–3 independent PIs working synergistically to address complex problems in prevention, rare subtypes, or survivorship and accelerate advances in patient care.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicant Organizations: Extramural or intramural U.S. or foreign academic institutions, biotechnology companies, foundations, DOD laboratories, and other public or private entities (for-profit or non-profit).

  • Principal Investigators: At least two and up to three independent investigators (Assistant Professor level or higher) by award activation. Mentored positions (postdocs/fellows) are not eligible as PIs.

  • Team Composition: One Initiating PI responsible for administrative tasks; Partnering PIs each submit an abbreviated full application package. All PIs must contribute intellectually and experimentally; simple reagent sharing does not meet intent.

  • Research Scope: Must address at least one FY25 MRP focus area—Prevention & Interception, Rare Melanomas, or Survivorship—with preliminary data required. Clinical trials are excluded; observational clinical research and basic through translational studies are allowed.

  • Consumer Collaboration (Encouraged): Partnerships with melanoma survivors, caregivers, or advocacy groups to inform study design and dissemination, though not required.

  • Cost Sharing: Not required.

Funding Details:

  • Total Pool: ≈ $14.7 million to fund ~7 awards

  • Award Cap: Combined total costs up to $2.1 million per award over a maximum 3-year period; indirect costs budgeted per each organization’s negotiated rate.

  • Allowable Costs: Personnel, supplies, equipment, travel (e.g., up to three investigators to one scientific meeting/year), data-sharing infrastructure; no clinical trial costs.

  • Payments: Quarterly in U.S. dollars to each PI’s institution.
