
DoD FY25 Melanoma Research Program Melanoma Academy Scholar Award
Adds independent, early-career melanoma investigators (“Scholars”) to the virtual Melanoma Academy for up to 3 years of career development and research support, fostering a collaborative network of melanoma researchers.
Eligibility Criteria:

Scholar (PI): Independent investigator no more than 7 years from first faculty-level appointment; must have independent laboratory space confirmed by the institution; may hold tenure-track or non-tenure positions.

Restrictions: Mentored positions (e.g., postdocs, clinical fellows) are not eligible as Scholars; if funded, Scholar must not hold another career-development award concurrently.

Career Guide: Each Scholar designates an established melanoma researcher (Associate Professor or higher) as Career Guide, with a strong funding/publication record and commitment to mentoring.
Funding Details:

Total Pool: Approximately 1.54 USD million to fund ~2 awards

Award Cap: Up to 770,000 USD total costs per award over a maximum 3-year period

Period of Performance: Awards made by September 30, 2026; FY25 funds expire September 30, 2031

Use of Funds: Direct and indirect costs per negotiated rates; salary support, supplies, travel (including Academy workshops and one scientific meeting per year), virtual-academy infrastructure; no clinical trial or tuition costs.
