
DoD FY25 Breast Cancer Research Program Clinical Research Extension Award
The FY25 BCRP Clinical Research Extension Award funds projects that extend or expand data collection, patient follow-up, and analysis of existing breast cancer clinical studies—maximizing the impact of participant contributions and addressing knowledge gaps from early trial termination or limited follow-up.
Eligibility Criteria:

Applicant Organizations: Extramural and intramural entities (academic institutions, biotech companies, foundations, DOD labs, etc.), U.S. or foreign, for-profit or non-profit .

Principal Investigator: Independent investigators at any academic level (or equivalent) may serve as PI, Initiating PI, or Partnering PI. Applications may include up to two PIs under the Partnering PI Option (PPIO) .

Team Requirements: Research teams must include at least two breast cancer consumer advocates actively involved in advocacy organizations .

Research Scope: Supports hypothesis-testing or -generating correlative studies, molecular analyses, biomarker validation, or extended clinical follow-up of open, ongoing, or completed trials. Initiation of new clinical trials is not permitted .

Overarching Challenges: All applications must address at least one FY25 BCRP Overarching Challenge (e.g., preventing metastasis, overcoming overtreatment) unless justified otherwise .

Cost Sharing: Not required.
Funding Details:

Total Pool: Approximately 8.4 M USD to fund one award.

Budget Caps: Up to 7 M USD total costs for a single PI; up to 8.4 M USD combined for PPIO applications, over a maximum four-year period. Funds expire September 30, 2031; awards activate no later than September 30, 2026.

Allowable Costs: Direct and indirect costs per negotiated rates; personnel; supplies; equipment; travel (including multi-institutional collaboration support and consumer advocate participation); data sharing infrastructure; no clinical trial initiation costs.
