
CRI Irvington Postdoctoral Fellowship to Promote Racial Diversity
The CRI Irvington Postdoctoral Fellowship to Promote Racial Diversity supports early-career scientists from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups who wish to train in fundamental immunology and cancer immunology under a world-renowned sponsor. Fellows receive three years of financial and career-advancement support to build a diverse community of immuno-oncology researchers.
Eligibility Criteria:

Underrepresented Group: Applicants must identify as Black/African American; Hispanic/Latino; American Indian/Alaska Native; Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander; or another group demonstrably underrepresented at their institution. Socioeconomically disadvantaged candidates from any race/ethnicity may also apply.

Field of Study: Project must be hypothesis-driven in immunology or tumor immunology, aiming to impact our understanding of the immune system’s role in cancer.

Degree Requirement: Must hold a doctoral degree (PhD, MD, or equivalent) by award activation.

Experience Limits: ≤ 5 years of relevant postdoctoral experience at activation (exclude medical residency for MDs). Only in exceptional cases will those with ≥ 3 years in the sponsor’s lab be considered.

Sponsor: Sponsor must hold a formal appointment as Assistant Professor (or higher) at the host institution. Only one fellow per sponsor may apply per round; sponsors may support a maximum of three CRI fellows at any time.

Institution: Fellowship must be performed at a nonprofit institution—U.S. or abroad. No citizenship restrictions.

Year 1: $74,000

Year 2: $76,000

Year 3: $78,000

Institutional Allowance: $5,000/year (to cover research supplies, conference travel, health insurance, childcare, etc.).

Additional Support:

Travel to CRI’s annual International Cancer Immunotherapy Conference (CICON).

Participation in CRI’s Bioinformatics Bootcamp (when offered).

Overhead: No administrative deductions allowed.

Payment: Monthly payments in U.S. dollars to the host institution.
Application Deadlines:

Deadlines: March 1 and September 1 each year. If the date falls on a weekend, deadline shifts to the following Monday.

Submission Time: Applications due by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on deadline dates.

Notification: Decisions announced ~10–12 weeks after each deadline.

Activation: Earliest four months after deadline; must activate within one year. Awards take effect on the first of the month.
