ASH: Clinical Research Training Institute in Latin America (CRTI)

The CRTI in Latin America is an intensive, two-day in-person workshop that helps early- to mid-career hematology professionals in Latin America develop foundational skills in clinical research. The program includes didactic lectures, small group peer-review sessions, one-on-one mentoring, and proposal development. It is designed to strengthen participants’ capabilities to lead patient-oriented research in hematology and encourages long-term academic growth and collaboration.

Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must:

  • Be a clinician (physician, nurse, psychologist, etc.) with a clinical practice in classical or malignant hematology

  • Be a fellow or faculty member within 15 years of their first faculty appointment

  • Be fluent in English (spoken and written)

  • Live and work in one of the following Latin American countries:

    Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela

  • Not be a previous recipient of CRTI-LA

Funding Details:

  • Full travel and accommodation costs covered by ASH

  • No application fee required

Duration:

  • Two-day in-person workshop

  • Next workshop: May 5–6, 2026, in Bogotá, Colombia (following the Highlights of ASH in Latin America)

  • Notification of Acceptance: November 2025

Required Application Materials:

  • CV (max 5 pages) with career background, training, and publication details

  • Research Proposal (2 pages) and References (1 page)

  • Goals for attendance (1–2 paragraphs)

Program Content Includes:

  • Clinical trial design fundamentals

  • Biostatistics and statistical software (SPSS, R)

  • Registry development

  • Ethics in research and conflict of interest

  • Literature search and bibliographic tools

  • Mentoring, collaboration, abstract/manuscript writing

Terms and Conditions:

Participants must:

  • Be employed in Latin America during the program duration

  • Attend all sessions and submit a PowerPoint presentation of their proposal

  • Complete all paperwork including COI and confidentiality agreements

  • Cite ASH support in resulting publications

  • Respond to ASH follow-up requests on career progression
