The Hands-on Course on Surgical Technique – Abdominal Surgery, organized by the European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO) took place from 29 September to 1 October 2026 at Leiden University Medical Centre in the Netherlands.

This Level 1 international workshop combined hands-on cadaveric dissection, expert lectures, video-based learning, and interactive discussions to strengthen participants’ knowledge of abdominal surgical anatomy and oncological surgical techniques.

Practical training covered abdominal and thoracic surgical access, vascular approaches, and the Kocher and Cattell–Braasch manoeuvres, with a strong emphasis on safe and effective operative practice.
