Urgent Call for Action: Shortages of Essential Cancer Drugs in the US Threaten Patient Care
Joanna Kemp.”14 cancer drugs are currently in shortage in the US including carboplatin, methotrexate and fluorouracil. ‘For the last couple of months, they’ve been rationing by rounding down doses of carboplatin by 10%.’ Read that again and now imagine that’s you receiving only 90% of your prescribed dose. And it’s not just the patients. Trial data will be impacted. Pharmacists, doctors and nurses are carrying the weight of these shortages faced by their patients. I have no doubt that manufacturers and the agency are working on this but I hope to see advocacy groups step up to lead the charge on a sustainable, long-term solution.”
