Vivek Kavadi is Chief Executive Officer of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), one of the largest professional organisations for radiation oncology clinicians, scientists and allied health professionals, representing more than 10,000 members worldwide. He began his tenure as CEO on November 1, 2024 following a nationwide search after a long career in clinical practice and cancer care leadership. Dr. Kavadi is a radiation oncologist with over 30 years of experience, and he previously served as Chief Radiation Oncology Officer for The US Oncology Network, overseeing strategy, operations and clinical service delivery. He has also held leadership roles at Texas Oncology and has been an active ASTRO member since 1994, including service on the Board of Directors and health policy committees.
Under Kavadi’s leadership, ASTRO continues to advance its mission of improving cancer care through professional education, clinical practice standards, policy engagement and scientific collaboration. Since he assumed the CEO role, the organisation has focused on strengthening member engagement, broadening its policy advocacy efforts—including work on value‑based payment models and radiation oncology practice issues—and enhancing multidisciplinary educational and research initiatives that support evidence‑based practice across the specialty. These efforts build on ASTRO’s longstanding role in shaping radiation oncology practice and advocating for quality care in cancer treatment.
