Thomas Powles recognized among The 100 Most Influential People in Oncology in 2025

Thomas Powles is a Professor of Genitourinary Oncology and Director of Barts Cancer Centre at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, and Lead for Solid Tumour Research at Barts Cancer Institute, London. He is an international leader in the treatment of urinary cancers, with a research focus spanning phase I to phase III clinical trials, particularly translational studies of targeted and immune therapies. 

Professor Powles has played a central role in advancing front-line combination therapies in renal cell carcinoma and immune checkpoint inhibition in bladder cancer, contributing to multiple EMA and FDA drug approvals and shaping modern standards of care. He is Editor-in-Chief of Annals of Oncology, co-leads European clinical guidelines for genitourinary cancers, and is famously recognized for his latest research that transformed the standards of bladder cancer treatment with antibody drug conjugates. He has been recognized in Nature’s top ten people who shaped science in 2023.
