Shane Jacobson is the Chief Executive Officer of the American Cancer Society (ACS) and the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), roles he assumed in August 2025. He leads one of the world’s largest cancer-focused organisations and its advocacy arm, overseeing a nationwide infrastructure that supports cancer research funding, prevention, patient education, and policy advocacy across the United States. Prior to joining ACS, he served as Chief Executive Officer of the V Foundation for Cancer Research, overseeing growth in revenue and grant-making and forging partnerships to accelerate cancer research.
Jacobson has more than two decades of nonprofit leadership experience, including serving as president and CEO of the University of Vermont Foundation. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications Studies and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy from Iowa State University and completed the Harvard University Management Development Program. Throughout his career, he has worked with volunteer and staff leaders to build strategic plans, enhance organizational impact, and connect missions to high-impact opportunities in cancer research and advocacy.
