Sean McCarson, Director of State Regulation and Policy at the Community Oncology Alliance, shared on LinkedIn:
“What a privilege to spend time with the incredible team at Clearview Cancer Institute (CCI) in Huntsville, Alabama! My visit began with CCI’s quarterly Community Oncology Alliance Patient Advocacy Network (CPAN) chapter meeting.
I had the opportunity to hear directly from patients, survivors, CCI’s team, and other advocates about their experiences and passion for improving cancer care.
The following day, I joined CCI in welcoming Congressman Dale Strong and State Representative Cindy Myrex for a Sit In My Chair/Advocacy Practice Visit.
Touring the practice alongside these elected officials offered an educational opportunity to highlight the many people, services, and coordinated efforts involved in delivering high-quality cancer care close to home.
It also reinforced why bringing policymakers directly into community oncology practices is such an important part of advocacy.

These visits are much more than a tour and an ability to hear from the providers and leadership
-they’re about building durable relationships with policymakers.
I would like to thank the graciousness of the entire CCI team. I would especially like to express my gratitude to Rebekah Ormond for organizing these impactful visits! Thank you also Jennifer Brownell for sharing your pharmacy expertise with me.
I sincerely appreciated your hospitality, leadership, and seeing your commitment to your patients. It inspired me as a reminder of why this work matters.
Community practices like CCI deserve common sense federal and state policies that protect their long-term sustainability! “

“One of the most powerful actions you can take as a cancer advocate is inviting your elected representatives to see cancer care in action.
Use these opportunities to build a relationship with your policymaker and advocate for independent community oncology!”
