Oncology Nursing Society of Nigeria (ONS- Nigeria) shared on LinkedIn:
“September is Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month, a time to increase awareness of cancers affecting the female reproductive system, including cervical, ovarian, uterine/endometrial, vaginal, and vulvar cancers.
Gynecologic cancers can affect women at different stages of life. Their risk factors, symptoms, methods of prevention, screening options, and treatment vary depending on the type of cancer.
Why does awareness matter?
Awareness promotes knowledge, encourages timely attention to concerning symptoms, and supports informed decisions about prevention, screening, and care.
As oncology nurses and healthcare professionals, we have an important role to play in:
- Providing accurate health education
- Promoting appropriate cancer prevention and screening
- Recognising concerning symptoms and facilitating timely referral
- Supporting women through diagnosis and treatment
- Addressing misconceptions and barriers to care
- Providing compassionate, evidence-based, and patient-centred care
This month, let us move beyond awareness to knowledge, prevention, early detection, timely care, and support.”
