On August 26, 2026, Nepal was struck by a devastating flash flood originating in the Bhote Koshi River. In a matter of hours, lives were lost, families were displaced, communities were devastated, and critical infrastructure was destroyed.
The scale of this tragedy is difficult to comprehend.
As Nepali physicians and member of the global oncology community, we are deeply grateful for the messages of concern and solidarity we have received from colleagues, friends, and mentors from around the world. Thankfully, both of our families are safe. But like many Nepalis, we remain deeply shaken by the loss of lives and the enormous destruction suffered by our country.
Rescue teams continue to search for missing people, evacuate survivors, provide emergency medical care, and deliver essential supplies to affected communities. The Government of Nepal has mobilized significant resources for search, rescue, relief, and rehabilitation, while the humanitarian response continues to expand.
But Nepal needs more than sympathy.
Nepal needs solidarity.

The oncology community is built on a fundamental principle: no one should have to face suffering alone.
Every day, we work across borders to fight cancer, share knowledge, support patients, and advance care. Today, I humbly ask our international oncology family to extend that same spirit of solidarity to the people of Nepal.
