Matti Aapro has played a central role in shaping oncology, education, and cancer advocacy in Europe. He is the President of Sharing Progress in Cancer Care (SPCC), Past-President of the European Cancer Organisation (ECO), and a Member of the Board of Directors of the Genolier Cancer Center (Switzerland). Dr. Aapro has devoted his career to global oncology education and supportive care.
He serves on the Executive Board of the European School of Oncology (ESO) and has held prominent leadership positions within the International Society of Geriatric Oncology (SIOG) and the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC). He is the founding editor of the Journal of Geriatric Oncology and the Chair of the Editorial Board for OncoDaily Medical Journal.
His contributions have been widely recognized, including the ASCO B.J. Kennedy Prize (2012) and the MASCC Distinguished Services Award. Through decades of leadership, mentorship, and advocacy, Dr. Aapro has had a lasting impact on geriatric oncology, supportive care, and international cancer policy.
