Martine J. Piccart-Gebhart Recognized Among The 100 Most Influential People in Oncology in 2025

Martine J. Piccart-Gebhart is an Honorary Professor of Oncology at the Université Libre de Bruxelles and Scientific Director of the Institut Jules Bordet in Brussels. She is a global leader in breast cancer research, with a particular focus on the molecular mechanisms driving metastatic breast cancer and therapeutic resistance. She is the co-founder and Chair of the Breast International Group (BIG), a worldwide network uniting 57 academic research groups leading international clinical trials. Among its flagship initiatives is AURORA, one of the most ambitious molecular screening programs in metastatic breast cancer, enrolling over 1,100 patients across 11 European countries to identify actionable genomic drivers of disease progression and treatment resistance.

Dr. Piccart has served as President of ESMO, EORTC, and the European Cancer Organisation (ECCO), and as a board member of ASCO and AACR. She has received numerous international honors, including the David A. Karnofsky Memorial Award, Leopold Griffuel Award, Umberto Veronesi Award, and Bob Pinedo Award. Her work on landmark trials establishing HER2-targeted therapy and genomic-guided treatment strategies as standards of care has fundamentally shaped modern breast cancer research, global collaboration, and precision oncology.
