Kirsty Duncan is a Canadian scientist and former federal Minister of Science whose policy leadership has influenced cancer research, prevention, and public health equity in Canada. As Minister, she oversaw the creation and expansion of federal research funding frameworks that strengthened national support for oncology, including major investments in precision medicine, immunotherapy, and population-health initiatives that underpin cancer screening and prevention programs. A longtime epidemiologist and Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, she has championed legislation advancing women’s health, cancer awareness, and equitable access to research funding.
Through her parliamentary work and personal experience with cancer she helped shape the modern Canadian research ecosystem and advocacy. Dr. Duncan is passionate about helping build resilient communities and taking action on climate change. She has helped provide food, shelter and education to Toronto’s youth, and served on the Nobel Prize-winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (2007).
