Jemma Arakelyan is Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Cancer and Crisis (ICC), an independent nonprofit dedicated to improving cancer care and access for patients in crisis‑affected settings. She leads ICC’s strategy, research, and advocacy initiatives to address barriers to cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment in regions affected by conflict, disaster, and health system disruption. Under her leadership, ICC with OncoDaily co-organized the first Global Summit on War and Cancer, bringing together experts and policymakers from around the world to develop actionable approaches to support cancer care in conflict‑impacted populations.
Arakelyan is a medical oncologist and adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Hematology and Pediatric Oncology at Yerevan State Medical University and has conducted anticancer drug research as a PhD candidate at the City University of Hong Kong. Her research focuses on developing new anticancer treatments and understanding mechanisms of cancer progression. She has served as an ambassador for the European School of Oncology in Armenia and holds leadership and advisory roles in international oncology forums, contributing to policy dialogues on health security and cancer care resilience in times of crisis.
