Prof. Humaid Al Shamsi is Founder and Director of the Medical Oncology Service at Burjeel Medical City, where he has been instrumental in advancing comprehensive cancer care in the United Arab Emirates. He holds board certification in medical oncology and internal medicine from the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, making him an internationally board-certified gastrointestinal oncologist in UAE. His clinical practice encompasses a broad range of solid tumours, and he helped establish integrated palliative care services as part of multidisciplinary treatment delivery. Al Shamsi was the inaugural graduate of the Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed program for outstanding UAE physicians and has advised health authorities on national cancer control efforts, reflecting his commitment to elevating oncology standards in the region.
Al Shamsi also serves as President of the Emirates Oncology Society and Adjunct Clinical Professor of Oncology at the University of Sharjah, supporting professional training, guideline development and public health initiatives. Under his leadership, the Burjeel Cancer Institute network — serving thousands of patients annually across multiple Emirates — has expanded access to advanced diagnostics and treatments, including targeted therapies, immunotherapy, stereotactic radiosurgery and bone marrow transplantation. He has actively promoted cancer awareness and early detection through media engagement and community outreach, reinforcing efforts to improve outcomes and reduce stigma around cancer care in the UAE.
