Dorothy Keefe, has been Chief Executive Officer of Cancer Australia since 2019. She is a medical oncologist and supportive care expert who led the national enquiry into lung cancer screening, paving the way for Australia’s first national lung cancer screening program, and oversaw the development and implementation of the first Australian Cancer Plan, setting national priorities for cancer prevention, treatment, care, and survivorship. She has represented Australia on the Governing Council of the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and was elected Chair of that body, reflecting her influence in international cancer policy and research collaboration.
Before joining Cancer Australia, Keefe had a long clinical and academic career as a senior medical oncologist at Royal Adelaide Hospital and Professor of Cancer Medicine at the University of Adelaide, with research expertise in supportive care and treatment of toxicities. She is a past President of the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC) and has published extensively in the field, contributing to clinical practice guidelines and evidence-based supportive care. Under her leadership, Cancer Australia has developed culturally respectful cancer support platforms for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, strengthened national policy and data frameworks, and delivered extensive resources in response to COVID‑19 to reduce disparities in cancer outcomes.
