Christopher Jackson is a leading medical oncologist and cancer policy expert whose work has shaped modern cancer care in New Zealand and beyond. Based in Dunedin, he is Professor of Cancer Medicine at the University of Otago and a national leader in cancer systems reform. He previously served for six years as Medical Director of the New Zealand Cancer Society and is currently the National Clinical Lead for the National Cancer Network, where he is responsible for implementing nationwide cancer policy and service transformation.
Dr. Jackson played a central role in establishing New Zealand’s National Cancer Agency and now works within the country’s health system to translate policy into practice, focusing on equity, access, and real-world impact. His research spans drug development, clinical trials, and health systems innovation, including leadership in the development of oral paclitaxel. A founding leader of the global Common Sense Oncology movement, he is a strong advocate for evidence-based, humane cancer care. In 2024, he was elected to the Board of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), where he contributes to global cancer control efforts and international collaboration.
