Understanding the Challenges Multicultural Communities Face in Cancer Support – Cancer Council Australia

Cancer Council Australia shared on LinkedIn:

“Last week, our Cancer Connect team spent two fantastic days at the FECCA (Federation of Ethnic Communities’ Councils of Australia) 2026 Conference in Canberra, meeting multicultural community organisations, advocates and leaders from across Australia.

It was a wonderful opportunity to introduce Cancer Connect to new audiences, but just as importantly, to listen and learn.

We heard about some of the challenges multicultural communities face when supporting people affected by cancer, including cultural beliefs and misconceptions, barriers to accessing information and services, and the importance of trusted community relationships.

Cancer Connect is a national service of Cancer Council, helping people affected by cancer find information, support and services across the cancer sector.

Community organisations play a vital role in supporting people through cancer. By working together, we can help more people find the support they need, in ways that are relevant and accessible to their communities.

We’re looking forward to continuing the conversations started at FECCA, with new connections and opportunities to share Cancer Connect with community organisations across the country.

And what a celebration of multicultural Australia! From African drumming to the Walk for Multiculturalism, the conference was full of energy, colour and connection.

Thank you to FECCA and everyone who generously shared their experiences, insights and ideas with us.

Find out more about Cancer Connect.”
