Ara Darzi Recognized Among The 100 Most Influential People in Oncology in 2025

Ara Darzi, Baron of Denham holds the Paul Hamlyn Chair of Surgery at Imperial College London, the Royal Marsden Hospital and the Institute of Cancer Research. He is Director of the Institute of Global Health Innovation at Imperial College London and Chair of Imperial College Health Partners. He is an Honorary Consultant Surgeon at Imperial College Hospital NHS Trust.

He is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences, and a Fellow of the Royal Society. He was knighted in 2002 for services to medicine and surgery and was appointed to the House of Lords in 2007 as Lord Darzi of Denham, serving as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Health until 2009. He subsequently served as the UK’s Global Ambassador for Health and Life Sciences (2009–2013) and has remained a leading voice in global health policy, innovation, and research funding. Professor Darzi was appointed and remains a member of Her Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy Council since June 2009.
