Bringing Italian Expertise to SIOPEN’s Global Neuroblastoma Community – AIEOP

“SIOPEN AGM 2026 – A strong Italian presence in Rome

Nearly 400 clinicians, researchers and healthcare professionals gathered in Rome last week for the SIOPEN Research Network Annual General Meeting 2026, bringing the international neuroblastoma community together for three days of science and great discussion!

After 17 years, the AGM returned to Rome and was opened by Maria Antonietta De Ioris, Coordinator of the Italian Neuroblastoma Working Group, and Luksch Roberto, Italian Deputy within SIOPEN. This year’s meeting also welcomed participants from beyond Europe, from South America to Saudi Arabia, reflecting the increasingly international reach of the SIOPEN community.

The scientific program explored key areas shaping neuroblastoma research and treatment, providing an opportunity to share new data, discuss open clinical questions and look ahead to the next steps in care and research.

Patient advocacy was also an active part of the discussion, with special thanks to Solving Kids’ Cancer UK’ and Shir for Life for bringing the patient and family voice into the discussion.

The Italian Neuroblastoma WG had a strong multidisciplinary presence throughout the meeting, with representatives from across Italy and contributions from pediatric surgery, radiation oncology, nuclear medicine and cellular therapies.

A special presence came from AIEOP Giovani, bringing together the next generation of Italian clinicians and researchers in neuroblastoma. At the end of the first day, the group gathered informally on the rooftop – joined by a few friendly “infiltrators” from another generation – for a spontaneous evening of conversation and connections across generations and centers.

The meeting concluded with a lecture on cellular immunotherapy by Prof. Franco Locatelli, followed by the closing session with SIOPEN President Lucas Moreno and SIOPEN Manager Carla Aguilera. Prof. Locatelli also highlighted the important role of AIEOP within the Italian pediatric oncology and neuroblastoma community.

A strong Italian community, a new generation coming forward, and an increasingly international network: working together to advance neuroblastoma research and care.”
