“We’re excited to introduce our medical partner, Dr. Johanna RAPANARILALA, an oncologist at Seychelles Hospital on Mahé Island and leader of the country’s only specialized oncology unit.

How long have you been a medical provider?

  • More than 20 years, including residency training.

What does a typical work week look like?

  • A busy mix of ward rounds, outpatient clinics, chemotherapy care, home visits, tumor boards, and 24/7 oncology support as the country’s only specialized cancer unit.

 What is a special memory you have with a patient?

  • Helping a patient overcome fears and misconceptions about treatment through honest conversation. Today, she is one of the program’s strongest advocates.

When did you start working with The Max Foundation, and how many patients do you support?

  • Since 2012. I currently support 37 patients through the program.

What do you love most about where you live?

  • The natural beauty, peaceful lifestyle, and the opportunity to unwind by the ocean.

 What languages do you speak?

  • English, French, Creole, and Malagasy.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

  • Reading, hiking, island hopping, beach picnics, and spending time with friends.

What is your favorite food?

  • A good lamb curry cooked by my husband.
