St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital shared on LinkedIn:

“Charles Roberts and Carsten Bönnemann have been elected to the National Academy of Medicine, one of the highest honors in health and medicine. Their election recognizes significant contributions to research, clinical care and scientific leadership.

Roberts, St. Jude president and CEO-elect, currently serves as executive vice president and director of the St. Jude Comprehensive Cancer Center.

His work as a physician-scientist has connected discoveries about the fundamental biology of cancer with the development of new therapies.

Roberts was recognized for research showing how disruptions in chromatin remodeling complexes contribute to cancer, paving the way for FDA-approved and investigational therapies for children and adults.

Bönnemann, inaugural chair of the Department of Genomic and Translational Neuroscience, was recognized for his contributions to precision medicine for neurogenetic and neuromuscular disorders.

His work has advanced understanding of the genetic basis of diseases such as juvenile amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and congenital muscular dystrophy.

His discoveries have also helped drive the development and implementation of novel gene-directed therapeutic approaches for children with devastating neurological conditions.

The National Academy of Medicine brings together leaders who help address important issues in health, science and policy.

Congratulations to Roberts and Bönnemann on this recognition, bringing the number of St. Jude faculty receiving membership in the National Academies to 16.”
