Sri Navaratnam: Honored and Humbled to Receive the Global Oncology Leadership Icon Award

Sri Navaratnam, Executive Healthcare Leader, Advancing Global Health and Health Equity, Oncologist, Professor at CancerCare Manitoba, Contributing Member at CONCORD-Lancet Global Commission on Cancer, shared on LinkedIn:

“I am deeply honored and humbled to receive the Global Oncology Leadership Icon Award.

This recognition is especially meaningful because it reflects a commitment that has guided my professional life for decades. Throughout my career, I have actively sought opportunities where I could contribute to advancing health equity, strengthening cancer care systems, and improving access to quality cancer care for all regardless of where people live. Global oncology is more than a professional interest for me; it is a lifelong commitment.

Over the past decade, including during my sabbatical, I have had the privilege of deepening my engagement in global oncology through collaborations with outstanding colleagues and organizations dedicated to reducing disparities in cancer care. As a candidate for the Board of Directors of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) I remain committed to advancing international collaboration, innovation, and equitable cancer care worldwide.

I am sincerely grateful to the organizers of the Global Oncology Leadership Icon Award for this incredible honour and for bringing together leaders who share a common vision of improving cancer outcomes globally.

I would also like to express my heartfelt appreciation to The Honourable Gary Anandasangaree, Minister and Member of Parliament, for presenting me with a Certificate of Recognition. I am truly grateful for his encouragement and support.

Awards are never the work of one individual alone. I have been fortunate to work alongside exceptional mentors, colleagues, and partners whose collaboration has made this journey possible. This recognition inspires me to continue advocating for health equity and to contribute even more to the global oncology community in the years ahead.”
