Richard Averitte, Senior Director of Events at the American Cancer Society (ACS), shared on LinkedIn:
“Over the past 3 months, the American Cancer Society has undergone an exciting transformation, evolving into a more donor-centric organization focused on strengthening relationships, deepening engagement, and ultimately growing our impact on the mission. In July, I stepped into a new role as Director of Distinguished Events.
I embraced the opportunity, leaned into the challenges, and did my best to support my team, my colleagues, and the incredible volunteers who make our work possible. It hasn’t always been easy, but it has always been rewarding.
Now, I’m excited and grateful to share that I’ve been promoted to Senior Director of Distinguished Events, leading a talented team responsible for events spanning from New York to Colorado. I’m thankful for the colleagues, volunteers, and leaders who have supported and encouraged me along the way.
I’ve learned a great deal over these past few months, especially about resilience, adaptability, and the importance of showing up for one another. I’m energized by what lies ahead. Not simply because of a new title or a larger footprint, but because I can support and develop an outstanding team, strengthen relationships, grow our impact, and keep moving our mission forward.
The geography may change. The responsibilities may grow. But the mission remains the same: to end cancer as we know it, for everyone.
Onward!”
