Dr. Rakesh Jain was honored with the AACR Award for Lifetime Achievement in Cancer Research
American Association for Cancer Research shared a post on LinkedIn:
“May is Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AA and NHPI) Heritage Month. AANHPIs are a large racial and ethnic group that broadly includes anyone who identifies as having an Asian, Asian American, Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander background and are Americans by birthright citizenship or naturalization. Today we recognize Rakesh Jain, an Indian-American scientist who was honored with the AACR Award for Lifetime Achievement in Cancer Research during the AACR Annual Meeting 2025.
Dr. Jain pioneered the notion that a tumor is not simply a collection of cells, but rather, a complex organ whose microenvironment fuels the progression of disease and resistance to treatment. His discoveries have fundamentally transformed our understanding of tumor biology and have directly informed the development and approval of new drug-combinations to treat cancer.
An AACR member since 1979, Dr. Jain was elected as a Fellow of the AACR Academy in 2020. He is also a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Medicine, and the National Academy of Engineering. He received the United States National Medal of Science from President Barack Obama in 2016. Learn more.”
Catherine Alix-Panabières, Full Professor of Oncology at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Montpellier, shared a post by American Association for Cancer Research, adding:
” Heartfelt congratulations, dear Prof. Rakesh Jain. I had the honor of spending the full Presidential Evening and diner with him — truly inspiring conversations and unforgettable moments.”
