“Thirteen years ago today, I left my home to pursue graduate training abroad.
I left Iran on July 25, 2013
At that time, I was already serving as a biology lecturer in Iran.
Leaving meant stepping away from an established academic career to begin again as a Ph.D. student in pharmacology in Malaysia.
It was one of the most difficult decisions I have ever made.
Looking back today, I realize that I was not simply changing countries – I was rebuilding myself as a scientist.
Over the past 13 years, my scientific journey has taken me through Malaysia, China, Taiwan, Poland, and now the United States.
Each move meant adapting to a new research environment, learning from outstanding mentors and colleagues, and proving myself again.
Along the way, I earned my Ph.D., published more than 40 scientific papers, collaborated with researchers across multiple countries, and was granted U.S. permanent residency through the EB-2 National Interest Waiver (NIW) – a milestone that made it possible for me to continue my scientific career in the United States.
Today, I am grateful to begin this new chapter as a Postdoctoral Fellow at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Walking into work each morning reminds me how far this journey has come – and how much there is still to learn.
To everyone who has supported me over these 13 years – my mentors, collaborators, colleagues, friends, and family – thank you.
Every opportunity, every challenge, and every transition have shaped the scientist I am today.
The journey continues.”
