Pamela Kunz: I’ve been promoted to Professor of Medicine (Oncology)
Pamela Kunz, Director of the Center for Gastrointestinal Cancers at Yale Cancer Center, shared a post on X:
“With gratitude and excitement, I am happy to share that I’ve been promoted to Professor of Medicine (Oncology). It’s been a long journey since my white coat ceremony.
First, I want to thank my family. My parents believed at a young age that I could be and do anything. My husband and three sons have also been an incredible source of support.
I know that my dad would have been especially proud. He was a biology professor and taught me a love of science and the value of curiosity. I was five when he got tenure and still remember how important it was.
Thank you to my mentors, coaches, colleagues, trainees, and patients. To my trainees – your success is my success and legacy. A special thanks to my letter writers (these letters are truly an academic act of love).
I’ve been reflecting quite a bit on my journey in academic medicine – and I have had my share of ups, downs, twists and turns. Along the way, I’ve been told I wasn’t good enough, didn’t belong, needed to be more of one thing or less of another.
I’ve learned resilience, discovered what matters to me, and try to live and lead through my values. As my journey continues, I hope to make a difference.”
