
Lucinda Billingham Receives the 2025 BTOG Lifetime Achievement Award
The British Thoracic Oncology Group (BTOG) has honored Lucinda Billingham with the 2025 BTOG Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the management of thoracic malignancies in the UK.
The award was presented by Professor Gary Middleton, who delivered a heartfelt speech, and the ceremony took place at the 23rd BTOG Annual Conference in Belfast, hosted by Professor Sanjay Popat.
Expressing her gratitude, Lucinda Billingham said:
“So proud and amazed to have received this wonderful award from BTOG – huge thanks to Gary and to Sanjay and the BTOG Steering Committee for selecting me for this incredible honor.”

Each year, BTOG selects a recipient who has made a significant impact in the field, with the award serving as a tribute to their dedication and achievements.
The BTOG Lifetime Achievement Award has been presented since 2004. The past five recipients are David Baldwin, Siow Ming Lee, Mary O’Brien, Tom Haswell, and Keith Kerr, all of whom have made significant contributions to the field of thoracic oncology.
About Lucinda Billingham
Lucinda Billingham is a Professor of Biostatistics at the University of Birmingham and has spent over 25 years as a Biostatistician at the Cancer Research UK Clinical Trials Unit. She is now the Director of Biostatistics, leading a team working on a wide range of early and late-phase clinical trials.
Lucinda Billingham has a strong focus on lung cancer research and is the Chief Biostatistician for the National Lung Matrix Trial. Her expertise spans a range of key areas, including the application of Bayesian methods in clinical trials, designing and analyzing trials for rare cancers, and early-phase trial design. She also specializes in biomarker discovery, validation, and evaluation for precision medicine, as well as statistical methods for analyzing quality of life and survival data, contributing to a more personalized approach to cancer treatment.
In addition to her research, Professor Billingham is dedicated to teaching—lecturing at Birmingham, leading external courses, and supervising PhD students.
The 2025 BTOG Lifetime Achievement Award is a well-deserved recognition of her dedication, innovation, and invaluable contributions to thoracic oncology.
