Louis Vermeulen, SVP and Global Head of Oncology at Roche Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED), shared on LinkedIn:
“I’m excited to share that I have started a new role as Global Head of Oncology at Roche Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED) in Basel. Today is Day 1!
It is a big step and one that has given me an opportunity to reflect on the path that brought me here. From studying the basic biology of cancer development and building a research group in academia while treating patients as a medical oncologist at the Amsterdam UMC, to most recently leading Discovery Oncology at Genentech, it has been very clear to me that the best opportunities for new medicines emerge when deep insights into cancer biology are combined with observations directly from patients and the clinic.
Over the past years, I have had many opportunities to work with colleagues in pRED Oncology and have watched the team build an impressive portfolio. I have been particularly struck by the breadth of scientific opportunities, the quality of the work, and the depth of expertise across drug discovery, translation and development.
There is also an enormous opportunity ahead. Cancer treatment is increasingly about bringing together innovative modalities into differentiated regimens, and I believe our ambition should go beyond developing great individual medicines. We need to use our science, portfolio and clinical insights to build treatment strategies that can fundamentally change outcomes for patients. Despite the important progress we have made in oncology, there remains a world to win!
For now, I’m looking forward to spending the coming weeks listening, meeting the teams and digging deeply into the science and portfolio. And then, together, identifying where we can continue to have the greatest impact for patients.
Very excited to get started. Let’s go!”
