Leonard Egede, SUNY Distinguished Professor, Chair, Department of Medicine at Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo, President and CEO of UBMD Internal Medicine, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“I am deeply honored to have been appointed a SUNY Distinguished Professor, the highest academic rank conferred by the State University of New York and awarded by the SUNY Board of Trustees.
According to SUNY, this distinction recognizes faculty who have achieved national or international prominence and a distinguished reputation through significant contributions to research, scholarship, teaching, service, or creative activity.
While I am grateful for this recognition, I view it less as a personal achievement and more as a reflection of the many colleagues, mentors, trainees, students, collaborators, and institutional partners who have shaped and supported my academic journey. No meaningful accomplishment in academia occurs in isolation.
I remain committed to advancing our missions of discovery, education, and service, and to creating opportunities for students, trainees, faculty, and communities to thrive.
My sincere thanks to everyone who has been part of this journey. I look forward to continuing this work together.”
