Lamia Mahmoud Begins New Chapter as WHO Representative to Egypt

Lamia Mahmoud, WHO Representative and Head of WHO Office in Egypt, shared on LinkedIn:

“A new role. A new office. A first day.

Today marked my first day as WHO Representative to Egypt.

As with any new beginning, there were introductions, meetings, and many things to learn. Yet what I will remember most from today are the small gestures of welcome.
A hot drink arrived with a smiling face drawn in the foam, courtesy of Hany. On the table sat a beautiful arrangement of sunflowers, and I was also touched to receive a plant that I intend to nurture.

These simple acts transformed a first day into something much more meaningful. They reminded me that while organizations like WHO are defined by their mission, they are brought to life by the people within them. Kindness, generosity, and a sense of belonging are what create the foundation for effective collaboration and service.

I am grateful for the warm welcome from the WHO Egypt team and look forward to listening, learning, and working together to advance health and well-being for all in Egypt.
Thank you to all my team for making me feel at home from day one.”
