”With concurrent revolutions in technology and data science, drug discovery is undergoing a generational transformation. At this moment I’m pleased to share an exciting professional update publicly with colleagues and friends.
After 25 years in the non-profit/academia space at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, MIT Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research and Break Through Cancer, I have now accepted an exciting opportunity at Amgen as Executive Director, Global Research Strategy, beginning September 14th. In this role, I’ll be joining the research leadership team led by Howard Chang acting as a key strategic partner to the Amgen Global Research organization, helping shape its direction, effectiveness, and long-term impact. This role will enable me to partner closely with leaders in Amgen Research and R&D broadly to strengthen how to prioritize opportunities, evolve the Amgen research strategy, and deliver a differentiated pipeline.
I’m tremendously excited about this next step and want to thank Jay Bradner, Howard Chang and the other members of the Amgen team – your mission and passion is infectious and I’m excited to help the team reach new heights, and have new impact, together.
I’m also exceptionally grateful for all of the amazing work we’ve done over the last 5.5 years at Break Through Cancer to create a fundamentally new model for radically collaborative cancer team science in the modern era – making it possible to bring together academic cancer centers and biopharma to accelerate understanding of how cancer therapeutics work via small, targeted early trials, using humans as the model.
Thanks to Tyler Jacks and the outstanding members of the 600+ person Break Through Cancer scientific community, our SAB, Board of Directors and others for driving this amazing, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity towards success.
As I make this transition, my lab at MIT Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research will be winding down. Thanks to the 50+ alumni and present lab members for teaching me so much along the way!
However, my professional commitment to building outstanding collaborations to accelerate translational research to benefit patients will endure. So, I look forward to continued volunteer work supporting functional precision medicine as co-president of the Society for Functional Precision Medicine together with Alice Soragni, as well as my support for national rare cancer research efforts as a Board Member of the Alliance for Rare Cancers.
Thanks everyone. It’s been an amazing journey – I believe while this is the end of one chapter, we’re just getting started in doing what we’re of course all here to do – accelerate disease cures together.”
