Filipe Coutinho: Honoured to Be Elected Vice-Chair of YSIOG for 2026–2028

Filipe Coutinho, Medical Oncologist at Unidade Local de Saúde Médio Ave, shared on LinkedIn:

“SIOG 2026 – So much more than a scientific meeting!

What a few days! Full of science, inspiring discussions, new ideas, old friends, new connections, and moments that remind me why I love being part of this community.

I had the opportunity to actively contribute in different ways, and each one of them was a reminder of the incredible talent, dedication, and passion within our field.

But one of the most meaningful moments was being elected Vice-Chair of YSIOG for the 2026–2028 term.

I feel truly honoured and grateful for the trust of my colleagues. More than a personal achievement, I see this as an opportunity and a responsibility to give back to a community that has given me so much, to support young professionals, create opportunities, and continue building bridges across countries, disciplines, and generations.

A huge congratulations to Nicolas M. Gonzalez Senac, our new YSIOG Chair. I am really looking forward to working together, learning from each other, and contributing to this next chapter of YSIOG.

And a very special thank you to former Chair Fábio Gomes for his dedication, leadership, and all the work he has put into growing and strengthening this community. You have helped create something truly valuable, and I hope we can continue building on it.

Beyond the scientific sessions and professional milestones, what makes these meetings unforgettable is always the people. The friendships, the conversations over coffee, the shared laughs, the unexpected encounters, and the feeling of being surrounded by people who genuinely care about making a difference.

Because, in the end, science moves forward through people. Through collaboration, friendship, mentorship, and the willingness to support one another.

I leave SIOG 2026 with new ideas, renewed motivation, and a lot of gratitude.

Excited for everything that comes next.  And next year, SIOG2027 in Luxembourg, that will be brilliantly organized by Sophie Pilleron and her team.

And finally, a heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Shabbir Alibhai on receiving the prestigious Paul Calabresi Award. A truly well-deserved recognition of his remarkable contributions to geriatric oncology, and a source of inspiration for all of us, especially the next generation of clinicians and researchers.”
