ESO Further Educational Grant Recipients for 2025

Each year, the European School of Oncology has some funding available to help support graduates with further educational opportunities outside ESO.

Here are the Further Educational Grant recipients for 2025:

Ahmed Ramadan Eldesoky (Egypt):

Dr. Ahmed Ramadan Eldesoky is an Egyptian oncologist affiliated with the Clinical Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Department at Mansoura Faculty of Medicine in Mansoura, Egypt. His research focuses on the expression of DNA mismatch repair (MMR) genes in lung cancer and their correlation with various clinicopathologic parameters.

He has received the grant to attend the ESMO Gastrointestinal Cancers Congress 2025.

Maria Gemelli (Italy):

Dr. Maria Gemelli is an Italian medical researcher affiliated with the Istituto di Ricovero e Cura a Carattere Scientifico (IRCCS) in Basilicata, Italy. Her research primarily focuses on lung cancer, particularly on resistance mechanisms to anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) inhibitors in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). She has contributed to studies exploring novel ALK mutations and their implications for targeted therapies.

She has received the grant to attend the European Lung Cancer Congress 2025.

Yanislav Iliev (Bulgaria)

Dr. Yanislav Iliev is a Bulgarian medical professional who graduated with honors from the Medical University of Pleven in 2003. He completed his training in Medical Oncology in 2013.

In addition to his medical career, Dr. Iliev has been involved in arm wrestling. He has participated in various competitions, including the Blagoevgrad Open 2019, where he competed in the -85kg left-hand final.

He has received the grant to attend the 2025 Annual Congress of the European Association for Cancer Research.

Malgorzata Pieniazek (Poland)

Dr. Małgorzata Pieniążek is a Polish medical professional associated with the Department of Oncology and Division of Surgical Oncology at Wroclaw Medical University in Wroclaw, Poland. Her clinical focus includes Merkel Cell Carcinoma, Melanoma, and Neuroendocrine Tumors.

She has received the grant to attend the SIOG Annual Conference 2025.

Marina Puchinskaya (Belarus)

Dr. Marina Puchinskaya is a Belarusian oncologist affiliated with the Minsk City Clinical Oncologic Centre in Minsk, Belarus. She holds a medical degree and is currently pursuing a PhD, focusing on epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition, cancer stem cell features, and their hormonal regulation in prostate cancer.

Dr. Puchinskaya has actively participated in various professional development programs. Notably, she attended the ESMO-The Christie Virtual Preceptorship on Lung Cancer in October 2020, where she appreciated the opportunity to update her knowledge with top experts in the field.

She has received the grant to attend the 25th Workshop on Methods in Clinical Cancer Research.
